We're all still here

Hey there guys.  Sorry it's been awhile.  My schedule has been:  take pain meds, sleep, walk to NICU to feed/visit the beautiful baby, walk back from NICU, eat, take pain meds, sleep, ...

I'm finally a little ahead so I'm getting pictures uploaded and doing a small update.  So without further ado, I introduce you to our baby:  Miss Bridget Marie Simpson Ourlastname.

Isn't she beautiful?! So much black hair it's crazy. Especially since Mike and I both have lightish brown hair. :) Everyone in the hospital calls her "the miracle baby" because my labor was completely insane and even though I don't like to think about it, we both could have lost our lives.  I can't go completely into the whole thing right now (just too hard emotionally), but she had a cord prolapse during the pushing and  was delivered/born 7 minutes later by emergency c-section.  It was frightening/scary/worrisome/every other word you could think would apply.  So really, it's amazing that we're all here and relatively healthy.  And she's just  perfect.

She's still in the NICU and will be for 7-10 days now. She's developing a bit of jaundice. I'm trying like crazy to get her to feed enough so that she doesn't have to go under the bili lights. Her while blood cell count is a bit high and something else is also coming back positive (the neonatalogist used a technichal term and all I can remember is it starts with a "c") So, she'll have to be on antibiotics for at least 7 days though IV. :( I'm hoping that by day 7, she'll be all better and we can bring her home.

I'm recovering slowly.  I'm walking and got to take a shower yesterday.  Oh.my.god. who knew something could feel so good?!

Mike has been absolutely amazing during the whole thing.  He's a fantastic husband and father.  It makes me cry to see him holding her and see the love on his face.

Anyways, I'm getting sleepy so I'm going to take a nap before I get up to feed her again.  Thank you all so much for the thoughts and prayers.  They must have gotten to the right people because our prayers sure have been answered.

Congratulations Kate! It makes me sick to think about how horrifying your delivery must have been, but I am glad that everything is just perfect now. I love her name.

That hair! She is absolutely precious. Congratulations Kate. I'm so sorry her birth wasn't a great experience, but at least she's here now and you can love on her. I hope you both have a quick recovery. I was thinking of you all weekend.

She is GORGEOUS!
It's nuts how it seems like we just can't have a baby from 12+ be born without complications!
I'm glad things are all turning out for the best. Congrats!

Statistics on cord prolapse vary, but the range is between 0.14% and 0.62% of all births in most studies.

You have one rare and special kid there!! I am so happy that you guys are OK. I heard NICU and emergency C-Section and I have been worried since. She is absolutely gorgeous and I am so happy you are both doing well and recovering. Keep us updated and congratulations... YOU'RE A MOM!!!

When you get a chance (ha ha ha) I'd love to get info on where I can send you a little something special for your new addition. :)

Kate, she is absolutely exquisite (sorry I'm so late to the party, things have been crazy here). Her features are so delicate and I can't get over all that hair! Congratulations!
